Coalition seeks to end gender-based violence and discrimination

A COALITION of groups will be hosting an awareness event in Rawson Square tomorrow in a bid to end gender-based violence and discrimination.

The coalition yesterday handed a proposal to the Prime Minister’s Office as part of their campaign, calling for a series of measures to help tackle the issues.

The groups making up the coalition - Bahamas Against Sexual Violence & Child Abuse (BASV&CA), Bahamas Urban Youth Development Center (BUYDC), Hollaback! Bahamas, Families Of All Murder Victims (FOAM) and Bahamas Women’s Watch - will be hosting the awareness event titled “Protect Women & Girls” from 7am to noon tomorrow.

The proposals put forward to the Government include calling for a gun amnesty for a set period, deploying defence force marines to assist with the crime fight and increased publicity campaigns in the media and education programmes in the schools.

Members of the public are welcome to call by the awareness event to learn more about the issues and ways to lend support.
