Cybots win the opener

The Cybots defeated the Commonwealth Bank Giants 100-93 last night in game one of the 2014 New Providence Basketball Association best-of-seven championship series at the AF Adderley Gym.

The Cybots, coached by Wayde Watson, trailed 23-16 at the end of the first quarter and 47-40 at the half. In the second half, the Giants, coached by Perry Thompson, were outscored 35-23 as the Cybots surged ahead 75-63 at the end of the third.

Eugene Bain scored 33 points and 17 rebounds for the Mail Boat. Mitchel Bain had 18, Ernest Saunders 14 points, David Taylor had 13 and Brian Bain contributed 10. Jackson Jacob scored 22 points with six rebounds to lead Commonwealth Bank.

Mark Hanna had 21 points, nine points and four assists, Gamaliel Rose had 13 points, 17 rebounds, four assists and three blocks and Jeremy Hutchinson added 12 points and six rebounds. Game two of the series is slated for 8pm Wednesday.
