THE country recorded another murder over the weekend after the discovery of a woman’s partially nude body in bushes yesterday morning.

Supt Paul Rolle, head of the Central Detective Unit, told The Tribune that the discovery, which is being investigated as a murder, was made shortly after 10am in bushes east of Dignity Gardens when a young girl, walking in the area, “smelt a foul odour.”

Supt Rolle added that when police were contacted and found the body, they saw that “the body of the deceased female was partly naked and possibly decomposed.”

“It also appears as though she may have been beaten as there are injuries to the face,” he said.

While the woman’s identity was not known to police, the CDU chief said the woman is believed to be a 54-year-old resident of Carmichael Road.

This discovery marks the country’s 30th murder for the year, according to The Tribune’s records.

Just a week ago, in Grand Bahama, a Englishman visiting from Canada was shot and killed when his mother’s home in the upscale Emerald Bay Subdivision was broken into and the family tied up and robbed.

Edgar George Dart, 56,of Manitoba, Canada, originally from Devon, England, was a farmer from the Rural Municipality of Taché.

He and his teenage son, George, and other close relatives, including his brother from England, were visiting their mother in Grand Bahama when three masked intruders broke into her home in Emerald Bay sometime around 7am on Tuesday.

They threatened George, 13, and the five other family members. It is understood that Mr Dart tried to reason with them.

The family was tied up and robbed of jewellery and other personal belongings. Mr Dart was fatally shot during a struggle with the gunman.

He was the country’s 29th murder victim for the year.

And while police are actively investigating both matters, they are also asking for the public’s assistance in solving a shooting incident that occurred on Friday.

According to reports, shortly before 3pm, a man was walking on Florida Court, when he was shot in his leg. The man was taken to hospital where he was detained and is now reported to be in stable condition.

Members of the public with any information about the death of the woman whose body was discovered in Dignity Gardens, the homicide in Grand Bahama or the shooting at Florida Court are asked to anonymously call Police at 919 or CRIME STOPPERS at 328-TIPS (8477) (New Providence) or 1-242-300-8476 (Family Islands).
