TWO fewer guns are on Nassau’s streets after police uncovered two handguns in separate incidents on Saturday.

In the first incident, shortly after 3pm, Mobile Division Officers acting on a tip searched a bushy area on Bunting Street off Farrington Road, where they found a handgun.

Three hours later, a tip led police to another bushy area at Price Street in Nassau Village, where they found another handgun, this time with a quantity of ammunition.

While no arrests have been made in connection with these discoveries, six men were arrested for questioning in connection with several armed robberies.

Police are now looking for the culprits behind five hold-ups that occurred within 16 hours of each other – between 11am Friday and 3am Saturday.

The first two incidents occurred shortly before 11am on Friday, April 11.

In the first incident, a man, armed with a handgun, robbed a Robinson Road business of two cell phones, jumped on his bicycle and pedalled off.

Around the same time on Friday, a man, again armed with a handgun and fleeing on a bicycle, robbed an East Street and Robinson Road supermarket of an undetermined amount of cash.

Twelve hours later, shortly before 11pm on Friday, two men armed with a shotgun robbed a man walking on Hampton Street of his cellphone, jewellery and cash before fleeing on foot.

On Saturday, shortly after 2am, three men armed with a handgun robbed a man walking on Burial Ground Corner of his cellphone. They too fled on foot.

About an hour later – just before 3am – a man with a handgun robbed another man of his cellphone and cash. The robbery took place in front of the victim’s Johnstone Avenue, Stapleton Gardens home. That thief left in a grey coloured vehicle.

Investigations are continuing in all of these armed robberies and police are asking those with any information to anonymously contact them at 919 or CRIME STOPPERS at 328-TIPS (8477) (New Providence) or 1-242-300-8476 (Family Islands).
