NASSAU Airport Development Company (NAD) executives saw an almost three per cent performance increase “across all sectors” during the four day Easter period compared to the same holiday period last year, its CEO telling Tribune Business that that the airport operator was looking forward to a “robust” summer traveling season as well.

NAD CEO Vernice Walkine, in an emailed response to Tribune Business, said: “We can report that over the very same four day period known as Easter, which includes Good Friday, Holy Saturday, Easter Sunday, and Easter Monday, we performed across all sectors of business (US, International and Domestic) almost three per cent ahead of the same four day holiday weekend last year. Bear in mind that Easter in 2013 fell March 29th to April 1 and in 2014 fell April 18-21.

Ms Walkine added: “We are very pleased with this performance and believe that it is indicative of a trend toward busier days. We look forward to a very robust summer as well.”

NAD signed a 30-year lease with the Government in April 2007 to manage daily operations at LPIA, and is responsible for most of the physical infrastructure, including parking lots, terminals, runways and taxiways.

SkyBahamas CEO Randy Butler said that his airline saw a peak in business during the Easter holiday period.

“The weekend was a really good weekend. Business was good. We appreciated that. I think most of the carriers had good numbers. The challenge is that the margin is so small with all of the challenges that we are having with the increased taxes and airport fees,” he said.
