Respects paid to Edmund Moxey

SENIOR figures from Bahamian life paid their respects to Edmund Moxey at the House of Assembly yesterday, where his body lay in state before his funeral this morning.

Mr Moxey, who died last week aged 80, was a Bahamian cultural icon and creator of Jumbey Village, which before its destruction was designed to be a centre of traditional Bahamian cultural exposition in an Over the Hill setting.

Mr Moxey was also a former MP for Coconut Grove and an accomplished musician.

Prime Minister Perry Christie, Governor General Dame Marguerite Pindling, Roderick Bowe, Commodore of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force, Opposition leader Dr Hubert Minnis, former Governor General Arthur Hanna and several senior ministers were among those who filed past the coffin.

The state funeral will be at 10am at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Stapleton Gardens.

Prime Minister Perry Christie is the most hypocritical, two faced, untrustworthy creature in the Bahamas.

Mr Moxey should visit Christie day and night and bring Mr. Pindling with him.

The PLP should have (out of respect for the man) stayed far away from the funeral of Edmund Moxey ........................ the way they treated him in life justifies my statement. Perry cannot plead ignorance ................. he was right there like Paul ................holding the cloaks for the Moxey killers after 1973.

Absolutely right! During the funeral service it was utterly shameful and disgraceful to listen to Dr Hubert Minnis remind us of the victimization that Mr Moxey and his family faced simply for being FNM supporters. Both Mr Moxey and his daughters were subsequently fired from their respective government jobs simply because of their political affiliation. And while Perry Christie tried to maintain his apathetic, careless posture at this assertion.... the shame and dishonor was written all over his two-face. The PLP is, and will always be a national disgrace! RIP Mr Moxey. You've served your country well.

I would say that as great a man as Mr. Moxey was , he showed the same shortsightedness that most of us have: he recruited Perry Christie.

Perry Christie will NEVER be 1/3 of the man that Mr. Moxey was.

The present day politicians are a sad reflection of the founding fathers of The Bahamas ..... and the rot started when Pindling decided to put personal wealth ahead of national service. This was so evident in the 1984 Commission of Inquiry. Now the politicians are talking about building personal "legacies" instead or national "pride" and "development"................. SAD. In the process they have developed a country of shortsighted opportunistic citizens...........SMH
