NWTBA World Championship 'Baseball in Paradise'

THE Bahamas again played host to top international junior baseball talent as local entities teamed with the National Wood Bat Travel Ball Association to host the NWTBA World Championship “Baseball in Paradise.”

The tournament was facilitated by the Bahamas Baseball Federation, Freedom Farm Baseball League and participating divisions included Under-18, U-16, U-14, U-11 and U-10 vying for the coveted titles.

In addition to local leagues, visiting teams included Texas Elite and the Benjie Molina Impact Baseball Academy out of Puerto Rico, Baseball BC out of British Colombia, Canada among many others.

According to its website, the NWBTA is aimed at providing “parents and players an opportunity to participate in a true international baseball tournament featuring teams from different countries.”

The event also included a skills competition which comprises a 60-yard dash, homerun competition and Velo Toss.

Next year, the event has already been booked for 2015, August 10-14.

The NWTBA World Championship has earned the interest of high authority MLB Crosschecker scouts who routinely scout their events.

Event sponsors included the Ministry of Tourism, Maximum Development Sports Academy, the Atlantis resort, Bahamasair, Gatorade and Vita Malt.
