IN the inaugural Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) Girls Under-15 Championship, the Bahamas has earned an historic berth to the quarterfinals.

At the tournament hosted in the Cayman Islands, the Bahamas finished the Group Stage with a 1-1-1 record to earn four points and finish second in the group.

Monday night at the Ed Bush Stadium, the Bahamas played the British Virgin Islands to a goalless draw to earn a spot in the quarterfinals.

The win came one day after the team suffered their first loss of the tournament. The Bahamians bounced back from Friday’s 4-1 loss to the Cayman Islands with a stellar effort on the defensive end.

Against Cayman, Laurann Brown scored the lone goal for the Bahamas in the 70th minute.

Lauren Scott scored two goals for Cayman while Sabrina Suberan and Chelsea Green added other scores.

On opening day, Team Bahamas won their first match against Curacao with a 3-0 performance. Jaleah Taylor, Meaghan Smith and Marisa Vietti all scored a goal each for the Bahamas. Marissa Vietti was named Player of the Game.

A total of 16 national teams are competing in the inaugural event and were placed into four groups of four.

The group stage included round-robin play and the top two teams from each group advance to the quarterfinals which will be played today at two venues, the Truman Bodden Sports Complex and the TC McField Sports Centre.

The semifinals will be played August 15 with the winners competing in the final and the losers contesting the match for third place on August 17.

Group A includes the Cayman Islands, Curacao, Bahamas and British Virgin Islands.

Group B includes Honduras, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados and Bermuda.

Group C includes Jamaica, Costa Rica, Anguilla and Belize while Group D includes Canada, Haiti, Cuba and Puerto Rico.
