Customs finalises cases over false declarations cases

THE Customs Department finalised cases on Tuesday against three individuals found making false declarations to Customs officers and being found in possession of unstamped tobacco products on arrival at Lynden Pindling International Airport from Cuba.

Jesus Dapena Vargas confessed to making a false declaration to a Customs officer at LPIA, contrary to Section 265 of the Customs Management Act. He was fined $600.

Marisel Garcia was found in possession of unstamped tobacco products, in contravention of Section 18(8)(a) of the Excise Stamp Control Regulations. She was fined $650.

Patrick Addison was found in possession of unstamped tobacco products in contravention of Section 18(8)(a) of the Excise Stamp Control Regulations. He was fined $1,150.

The department advised the general public to adhere to the rules of the Customs Management Act and the Excise Stamp Control Act, as it relates to unstamped tobacco products.
