Barracuda Swim Club's 18-medal haul at rhe Speedo Winter Championships

BRINGING HOME THE MEDALS:  With a small, power-packed team of 15 swimmers, the Barracuda Swim Club brought home a total of 18 medals won at the Speedo Winter Championships.

THE Barracuda Swim Club hauled in its share of medals at the Speedo Winter Championships in Plantation, Florida.

With a small, power-packed team of 15 swimmers, the Barracuda Swim Club brought home a total of 18 medals.

“The meet was a smashing success for the club,” said head coach Sue Coleby. “The cohesion of our club and commitment of our parents and coaches has created the winning combination.”

Travano McPhee, senior competitive coach, said the hours of dedicated training and hard work by the swimmers continues to pay off.

“Our swimmers are focused and they are training hard. The Barracuda Swim Club club has demonstrated that it has some of the best athletes in the swim community, we as coaches are committed to bringing out the best in them.”

Leading the way was Izaak Bastian, who placed second overall in the 13-year-old boys’ division with a total of six medals, winning gold in the 50y, 100y and 200y breaststroke events, gold in the 100y IM, silver in the 200y IM and bronze in the 50y freestyle.

Kevon Lockhart placed third overall in the 12-year-old boys’ division with a total of four medals, including gold in the 50y back, silver in the 200y butterfly and bronze in both the 50y and 100y butterfly.

Drew Bastian picked up three medals with gold in the 50y and 100y breaststroke and silver in the 200y breaststroke.

N’Nhyn Fernander had three medals - gold in the 50y butterfly and silver in the 50y breaststroke and the 100y butterfly.

Ian Pinder won two medals with a silver in the 50y and 100y butterfly events.

Other members of the team that attended the championships who also gave stellar performances included Devin Cuffy Bethel, Kohen Kerr, Racheal Lundy, Sian Longley, Sean Longley, David Morris, Randy Paul, Amber Pinder, Hodari Prince and Utoy Wong,

“We are very proud of all of our swimmers and we look forward to continued success throughout the swim season,” according to a press release.
