One dead, 10 injured after plane crashes into sea

A SMALL plane crashed in waters off Clifton Pier in western New Providence early this morning killing one person and injuring 10 others, The Tribune understands.

Officials say the twin-engine Piper Navajo was heading from Governor's Harbour, Eleuthera to the Lynden Pindling International Airport when it went down 550 feet from the coast. Early reports say the plane, operated by Ferguson Air and serving as a charter for Bahamas-based Southern Air, may have lost an engine.

The fatality was a 77-year-old American man.

The 10 survivors - four Bahamians and six Americans - were rescued by a team from the nearby Stuart Cove’s Aqua Adventures and taken by ambulance to Doctors Hospital in Nassau.

Been watching the ambulances go back and forth the whole morning...is there only 4 ambulances on this whole island? No wonder there is such a high death rate with accidents! People die before they even get medical help....no appreciation for the health of the residences of Bahamas

Ambulances are normally taking gunshot victims to PMH with police escort. I see it more and more each day. Unavoidable accidents have to take a back seat.

I only fly "Better late then never" Bahamasair.

I tried Sky Bahamas a couple of times, but since they crashed in marsh harbour, no more.

Bahamas air and Qantas are in the guiness book of records as the only two airlaines that never lost a passenger.

I agree, great job to the pilot. Reminds us of Captain Sully with the Miracle on the Hudson. Now that guy got Presidential commendation and special national honour ........... what will Rev Ferguson get for his heroic efforts from our community??????????
