SOFTBALL

BSC FINAL

DUE to the death of James “Jim” Wood, the remainder of the 19-and-under best-of-three Baptist Sports Council 2014 Coca-Cola Softball Classic, which was scheduled to be played at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex on Saturday, has been postponed.

The series was put on hold as the CW Saunders Cougars is coached by Brad Wood Sr and Jr, a son and grandson respectively of Jim Wood. The Cougars trailed the Macedonia Warriors after losing the first game of the series. It’s not known exactly when the series will be played. The BSC already crowned its co-ed and men’s champs. Last week, Golden Gates swept St Paul’s Fox Hill in two straight games in the co-ed final, while Golden Gates pulled off a 2-1 decision over Faith United in the men’s series.

CHAMPION BOXING

CHAMPION Amateur Boxing Club is scheduled to host its 12th annual End of the Year/Boxing Day Amateur Boxing Tournament at the Wulff Road Boxing Centre 4pm December 26.

It’s being dubbed “The Final Round – 2014 – Fight to the Finish” and will feature an evening of explosive and exciting competition.

During the night, Champion Amateur Boxing Club will honour the late Wilfred Coakley Sr, Frederick Sturrup and Ray Minus Sr on their induction into the National Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2014 for their contribution to the development of boxing in the Bahamas.

The main attraction for the night will be the fights between Don Rolle and Egan Cartwright and Lennox Boyce versus Christopher Fox. There will also be five other matches on tap with competitors competing in the 7-8, 9-10 ands 11-12 year old divisions.

Awards will be presented to the most improved boxer, most outstanding boxer, best fight of the tournament, boxer of the year and the Ray Minus Sr trophy.

All amateur boxers and clubs are welcome to participate.

CATHOLIC BASKETBALL

THE 39th Annual Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Academy Crusaders Christmas Invitational Basketball Tournament is set for Wednesday-Saturday, December 17-20. It is the oldest and longest running senior high school boys basketball classic in the country. Ten schools from Grand Bahama, New Providence and Canada will battle for the prestigious crown at the St Georges Gymnasium in Freeport, Grand Bahama.
