NPBA ACTION

THE New Providence Basketball Association continued its regular season with a double header at the AF Adderley Gymnasium on Wednesday night.

In the opening game, the Double R Services Limited Cleaners knocked off the Rhythm Rebels 104-97 and, in the feature contest, the Patron Regulators held off the Island Luck Pros 93-88.

The league is slated to conclude its first half action tonight with another double header before taking a break for the Christmas holiday.

In the opener at 7:30pm, the College of the Bahamas Caribs are scheduled to face the Commonwealth Bank Giants and, in the nightcap at 9pm, the Real Deal Shockers face the Mail Boat Cybots.

ORANGE BOWL

IT wasn’t what Team Bahamas expected at the prestigious Junior Orange Bowl in Florida on the first day of competition.

Jacobi Bain was the only player to win in the opening round. He won 7-6 (5), 7-6 (4) over Juan Espinel of Colombia in the boys’ 12s singles. Bain was to have played Daiki Yoshimura of Japan on Thursday, but no results were available up to press time last night.

In other matches, Syndey Clarke lost 6-0, 6-1 to Canadian Anca Craciun in the girls’ 14s singles, Andrew Maura lost 6-2, 6-2 to Joao Ferreira of Brazil in the boys’ 14s and Dointe Armbrister lost 6-0, 6-0 to Luke Vukovic of Canada in the boys’ 14s.
