THE most recognisable name in the history of South Florida sports, Dan Marino and the Miami Dolphins organisation will again partner with the Ministry of Tourism.

Marino is expected to host the second edition of the “Dan Marino and Friends Bahamas Weekend” in New Providence February 19-22.

The exclusive package, which starts at $1,995 for two, includes round-trip airfare from Miami or Ft Lauderdale, hotel accommodations, a round of golf with the football legends and other events at the Atlantis resort on Paradise Island.

The itinerary includes a welcome reception on opening night, followed by golf and evening events on day two. Day three will include a youth football clinic at the Thomas A Robinson National Stadium and the event culminates with a flag football game with the legends.

The Miami Dolphins Legends were in town last February to launch their partnership of a five-year deal that will make the Bahamas the official island destination.

The promotion also includes the Bahamas Bash Zone at the Sun Life Stadium, home of the Dolphins, where the 100-level themed in Bahamian decor and prizes are offered by the Ministry of Tourism.

Minister of Tourism Obie Wilchcombe said each aspect of the promotion will continue to grow in stature as the events gain notoriety.

“The Miami Dolphins have been wonderful partners, they have been able to give us favoured spaces in their stadium and we have been able to capitalise,” he said.

“We are constantly thinking on building, how to make things better, how to involve more players and more fans. Again it’s a part of a promotion benefitting the Bahamas. When a name like Dan Marino comes, with him comes fans who follow.”

In last year’s inaugural edition, the Hall of Fame quarterback Marino travelled with Dolphins’ president and CEO Tom Garfinkel and retired players Dirk Anderson, Mary Clayton, Troy Drayton, Mark Duper, Sam Madison, OJ McDufie, Nat Moore, John Offerdahl, Louis Oliver, Dwight Stephenson and Stuart Wooden.

“This partnership is mutually beneficial for all the Dolphins fans we have eager to visit this island paradise as well as all the Dolphins fans we have in the Bahamas looking to connect with our team in Miami,” Garfinkel said. “We are delighted Dan Marino and the Miami Dolphins Legends can bridge our two communities in such a meaningful way.”

Despite never winning a Super Bowl, Marino holds dozens of NFL records and is recognised as one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history. Best remembered for his quick release and powerful arm, Marino led the Dolphins to the playoffs 10 times in his 17-season career. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2005.
