Baseball icon 'Jim' Wood laid to rest

HUNDREDS of Bahamians packed the Holy Family Church on Robinson Road to pay their last respects to the late James ‘Jim’ Wood on Saturday.

Wood, 78, was the longtime president of the Bahamas Baseball Association. In October, Wood and his officers signed an agreement with the Bahamas Baseball Federation, headed by Craig ‘Salty’ Kemp, to end a dispute in the sport that lasted for about two decades.

He was survived by his wife, Eva, nine daughters, 10 sons and 60 grandchildren, the majority of whom he was instrumental in getting to play sports, mainly softball and baseball, but also volleyball, basketball, hockey and even bodybuilding.
