Amateur boxers in spotlight at Ray Minus Sr End of the Year tourney

CHAMPION Amateur Boxing Club held its 12th Annual Ray Minus Sr End of the Year Amateur Boxing Tournament at the Wulff Road Boxing Square on Saturday.

There were a number of bouts contested after which the awards to the deserving boxers for the year were distributed.

Winning the Ray Minus Sr Trophy for the Boxer of the Year was Don Rolle and the most outstanding boxer of the year was Lennox Boyce.

Other winners were as follows:

Best fight - Tyron Neely and Mario Stuart

Most improved Boxer - Lorenzo Fertil, Primary Boxing Champion – 7-8 years – Bendery Jean, Primary Boxing Champion – 9-10 years – Fred Rolle, Primary Boxing Champion - 11-12 years – Dante’ Thomas.

Results of the matches staged on the night were as follows:

Shaton Jean won over Kino Rolle, Fred Rolle won over Trevano Taylor, Dante’ Thomas won over James Armbrister, Dante’ Thomas (second fight) won over Tavante Glinton, Bendery Jean won over Josh Charles, Tyron Neely won over Mario Stuart, Tyrone Neely (brother of Tyron Neely) won over Shandrick Francois, Lennox Boyce won over Emmanuel Rolle as the referee stopped the contest in round two and Lorenzo Fertil won 32-30 over Don Rolle.

Ray Minus Jr also took the time out to say thanks to the D’Albenas Agency, Battery & Tyre Specialist, Wallace Whitfield & Co., JBR Building Supplies, Ron’s Electric, Doc’s Pharmacy, Nirvana Beach-Mr Cedric Munnings and Commonwealth Bank, who sponsored their events during the year.

He also recognised the press, including Brent Stubbs and The Tribune sports staff, Sheldon Longley and The Nassau Guardian sports staff, The Punch Publications Sports, Gerrino Saunders and Love 97, Charles Fisher and ZNS Sports Staff, Rudy Levarity and Vann Ferguson and the staff of Sports Radio.
