FOR the first time ever, last weekend, the Peace For Life movement took their efforts to Arawak Cay for their festival celebrations.

Peace for life productions, Triple B Malt and the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture teamed up to present the event under the theme: “Aren’t We All Humans... Then Why Can’t We All Just Live in Peace?”

It kicked off with a Peace Parade, which brought together hundreds of schoolchildren to march.

A family fun day at Arawak Cay started the second day. The Artists for Peace Concert took place at the same venue at 6pm.

Several secular and gospel musicians performed, including Landlord, Christian Massive, Najee Dunn, D Mac, Geno D, Funky D and Elon Moxey.

The events culminated with a Peace for Life rally, where the headlining artists performed and sent a united message to the nation.

Ken Rolle, of Peace for life productions, told Tribune Entertainment they did not get the crowd they were anticipating, but it went well for its first time.

“I was actually a victim of violence some 11 years ago, so that was motivation for me to do things like this. I use to do the ‘Stop The Violence’ and the community festival in the Pinewood area and this year I decided to take it from just being a community event and take it to the general public and the entire island so that is how we got Arawak Cay as a location,” said Mr Rolle.

“Saturday was hosted by Dynamite Daisy. That night was well supported by the artists and they all did their part. They really came to push the message of peace out there. The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture sponsored a song called ‘Peace Begins With Me’ that actually was debuted at the Saturday event and it is going to be coming to a radio station near you very soon. It features about 12 of the most popular Bahamian artists including Dyson Knight, Sammi Starr, Geno D, Christian Massive, Bodine and more,” said Mr Rolle.

He said they are also making plans to tour different schools in Nassau to promote the song.

“One of my main focuses for the event was that if we can only reach one person, then that is where the domino effect would have begun. I am sure that we reached more than one person. This event is going to go on from here, as we plan on making it an annual event. We are also trying to do a Summer Peace Splash,” said Mr Rolle.
