A 78-year-old woman is fighting for her life after her jeep was in a collision with the prison bus.
According to reports, the bus, which was carrying eight passengers including prisoners, was travelling south on Fox Hill Road when the collision with the jeep occurred.
The woman, a Fox Hill resident, was taken to hospital, and is in critical condition.
Several prisoners were injured.

So did the jeep collide with the bus or did the bus collide with the jeep? Contradicting. The way they dangerously rush through traffic with these prisoners amaze me sometimes that no accident results from this. Half the time you dont even know because of the lack of 'visual awareness' or lighting, just having a big school bus and unmarked cars with sirens is not enough to warn other drivers. Half the time they dont even know where they are coming from. Maybe a better visual bus equipped with visual lights all around will help as well along with the sirens.

Those prison buses must get their drivers from the Jitney pool...only downside is they are amped up because they got sirens blarring...there is NO need to run those buses at the speed they do. By all means, use your lights to pass traffic, but it's not an 'emergency', you don't have to drive recklessly and go 60-70 mph down congested streets.

Sorry to hear of the accident to this poor woman. Why doesn't government buy a new high security bus with blacked out windows that can travel through the town at normal speeds? It is absolutely irresponsible for the Prison Service to be allowed to drive that ramshackle of a bus at speeds that pose a danger to law abiding motorists. Is there anyone running this country?

whatever happened to the remand center that was supposed to be built years ago near the Fox Hill Prison why does someone have to be seriously hurt or God forbid killed before any Government act. Lets pray this Precious Pearl recovers.

Under whose administration did that occur? Who approved such a building? So many points in the process for someone to say something and stand up for right. BUT no one - absolutely no one ever says anything to stop the process- to slap a prime minister with too much power side the head and say "No - you can't approve this. It really does not matter what size prison bus was involved. They should not allowed to operate beyond the laws of the road, which were designed for the safety and protection of the general public.
The point is there is no justifiable reason to endanger the lives' of citizenry by speeding, bobbing and weaving through traffic like a blind idiot on steroids.
After all..What is the rush all about? Prisoners can never be late for anything anyhow!

I personally witness the prison bus weaver left to right on Wulff Road and nearly lost control. It seems as though Commissioner Greenslade hasnt address this serious issue until one day it be his relative. The bus that is transporting prisoners does not need to be speeding up through the congested streets of Nassau. Why is it that an Ambulance can pass without damaging or causing an accident? Why is it that a fire engine can pass without causing damages or an accident? The reason is safety of others. Here it is this lady is clinging for her life and yet the Prison bus is still speeding through the capital. Prisoners are being injured, they have rights, they are innocent until proving guilty. Mr. Greenslade and others, I know you are reading what we the people write and Mr. Editor, please publish what we say so they can see this. There is no reason to speed the bus through the capital, what if those prisoners had escape and were dangerous? Please let us all pray that this lady makes it through.

Ordinary Bahamians don't matter in this country. Now if you are in the civil service you can do as you please. The police do as they please day and night. Speeding is their right, no seat belt no problem, taking the kids to school in a police car, right away, drinking on the job, everyday, sleeping on the job, of course, ignoring complaints, thats right, stealing, more than you know. ANYTHING. What happens if they are caught, NOTHING, for they are civil servants and they can do as they please, Too hell with the people they work for (the Bahamian people), they are government workers and Bahamian Government does as it pleases no matter how detrimental it is to the BAHAMAS.

With other accidents, police spokesperson are quick to question if speed was a factor. Lets see now if speed contributed to this mishap. Could this all had been avoided if the police vehicles were travelling at a moderate speed to enable itself to brake for sudden emergency stops. The first thing soon to be mention is the prison bus siren was on but considering Mama's age, she could have hearing difficulty. She was hit pulling out of a corner. Was it a blind corner that she had to pull out so far before she could even notice what was coming or if traffic had stop from hearing or seeing the prison bus approaching, Ma could of simply think that traffic was letting her out. Besides, who overtakes pass any corner without caution?

The Rumbler Siren is needed. You will feel that in your bones. Police believe because they have on Sirens they automatically have the right away with no regard for anything. Driving head on into other cars.I ran my car into a ditch last time just to avoid being hit. Its crazy. It appears the elderly lady thought the cars pulled over to let her out a corner and was hit by the police bus.

I recently went to jail(HMP), and while on the bus the driver and other officer were drinkin Hennessy and smoking, one had a big cigar and the other had a box of cigarette. Dem niggaz dont give a crap bout the people on the road when they escorting prisoners to fox hill. It's a rush for them, they be getting off! If anyone bin jail on the big yellow bus, yall shud know...........sad thing is................DEM NIGGAZ THE LAW!

Don't you just wish that the government would sit down and solve one simple problem- Just one- We have been asking them to rethink this foolishness for years and noone- administration after administration has been able to come up with a better solution. Speed isn't the problem, it's recklessness. Someone pointed out above that ambulances travel at high speeds but they don't have the near misses that these prison buses do. I believe 242orgetslu, this is fun for them, they are in some video game, darting in and out of traffic, buzzing cars, frightening old ladies in private vehicles and everybody on the bus is a big thrill for them. It's like a guy trying to impress a girl with his non-race car driver skills.
