RBC donates food and clothing to the needy

RBC FINCO Palmdale branch made a donation of food, clothing, and funds to Great Commission Ministries to support their work helping the needy.

Great Commission Ministries International (GCMI) is a global, non-profit, non-governmental organisation whose mission is to bring reconciliation, restoration and hope to those affected by poverty, crime, drug abuse and broken relationships.

Branch manager Marcus Hutcheson said: “Supporting Great Commission Ministries is an ongoing initiative.

“The organisation was selected based on the work they do in the Palmdale area and my staff has been fully committed to this charitable effort. Our company as a strong volunteer programme and my team is proud of our ongoing relationship with this organisation.

“During these difficult economic times, organisations like Great Commission Ministries continue to provide food, clothing, and shelter to those in need.”

Nadia Simms-Small, the branch’s manager of client care, said: “Every quarter the branch decides on a charitable initiative to provide community assistance and our RBC staff members are always on-board.

“In addition to other donations to Great Commission Ministries last year, the team assisted with the organisation’s annual Children’s Christmas Party.”

GCMI was established in Nassau in 1987 to assist poor, needy and homeless men and women.

Emergency shelters were opened in densely populated areas and a feeding centre, food bank, and clothing distribution centre were expanded.

Thousands of clients have been served from these facilities over the years.

GCMI is also committed to assisting fire and disaster victims and defending the rights of the poor.

Great Commission Ministries has also assisted and counselled numerous ex-prisoners looking for a second chance.

GCMI is located on Wulff Road and over its 26-year existence in the Bahamas, has provided food, clothing and shelter, free of charge.

Recently its efforts have intensified to meet the growing need – now, according to office manager Maxine Bethel, 350 meals are provided each day, including to the sick and shut-in.

Ms Bethel said: “We would like to thank RBC for its continued support of Great Commission Ministries International.

Responsible corporate partners play a crucial role in keeping things going in our communities.

Thank you once again, on behalf of Bishop Walter Hanchell and the board of directors of Bahamas Great Commission Ministries.”
