THE Tara Xavier Hepburn Foundation has announced the award of four full scholarships for the academic years 2013 to 2016 as a part of its programme to provide educational opportunities for deserving young Bahamians.

Winners of the scholarships are Demonica Brown, a graduate of LW Young Junior High School and Jefferson Stubbs of St Anne’s School, both of whom will attend St Anne’s, and Eleanore Simmons, a graduate of HO Nash Junior High School and Moriece Forbes of St John’s College, who will both be attending St John’s.

This brings to 21 the number of scholarships granted by the Foundation since its inception in 2007.

The Tara Xavier Hepburn Foundation has extended its congratulations to these hard-working students as well as Jeffelton and Joann Stubbs, Jefferson’s parents; Demarles and Zernica Brown, Demonica’s parents; Marvin and Vanria Simmons, Eleanore’s parents; and Moriece and Joy Forbes, Moriece’s parents.

The Tara Xavier Hepburn Foundation was launched on December 29, 2006, to celebrate the life of an exceptional young Bahamian. The Foundation is dedicated to the holistic development of young people by empowering them to achieve a positive sense of self and to realise their full potential as productive, responsible and contributing citizens.

A key goal of The Foundation is to encourage young Bahamians to take maximum responsibility for improving themselves.

The Tara Xavier Hepburn Scholarship is open to graduates of Bahamas Government Junior High Schools and students of St John’s College and St Anne’s School who have successfully completed grade 9. The Scholarship is tenable at St John’s College and St Anne’s School.

To be considered for a scholarship, applicants must be nominated by their school, attain at least a 3.0 GPA, have demonstrated leadership ability and/or community involvement, be of good moral character and successfully pass a minimum of five BJC subjects which must include English and Mathematics with grade C or better.

Applicants also may be required to attend an interview. The Tara Xavier Hepburn Scholarship covers full tuition and the cost of books.

The Foundation extended its “sincere congratulations to this year’s recipients on being chosen as a part of this year’s Scholarship exercise”.

The Tara Xavier Hepburn Foundation Scholarship is made possible by the generosity of many donors, including Lyndhurst Limited, Richard Campbell Limited, Dr Livingston Marshall, Mr Godfrey K Kelly, CMG, and the Anglican Central Education Authority, “all of whom continue to support and invest in the youth of our nation through the work of The Foundation”.
