VOLLEYBALL

NPVA ACTION

THE New Providence Volleyball Association continued its second playoff series at the DW Davis Gymnasium on Wednesday night as the Johnson’s Cherry Bombs swept the College of the Bahamas Lady Caribs 28-26, 25-17 and 25-22 to win the series 2-0 and advance to the ladies’ championship.

They are now scheduled to take on the undefeated defending champions Scottdale Vixens.

The Cherry Bombs were led by Tia Charlow? with eight kills, two blocks and 13 assists. She was assisted by Davia Moss,? who finished with three serve aces and eight receptions. For the Lady Caribs, Sydline Justilien led with nine points to go with Diandra Sands?’ 11 assists.

In men’s action, Jamaal Ferguson led the Scotiabank Defenders and all scorers with 19 points and five digs to defeat Team Passe. The Defenders won in four sets 25-20, 22-25, 25-16 and 27-25 to make their appearance in the men’s championships. Shonari Hepburn? assisted with 10 kills, 5 blocks and an ace to go with Tony Simon’s 53 assists.

In the loss, Team Passe was led by Kyle McIntosh’s 10 points, Ron Demeritte?’s six kills, two blocks and three digs. Devince Smith ended the night with four aces and 26 assists.

Due to Valentine’s Day today, the decisive third game with the Technicians and the Warriors is slated for 4pm Sunday. The championship is now slated to begin on Wednesday, February 19.

SOFTBALL

NPSA ELECTIONS

IN accordance with Article VI, the secretary has announced that the New Providence Softball Association’s annual general meeting is set for 7pm on February 25 in the conference room at the Ministry of Education, Thompson Boulevard.

During the meeting, the reports by the president and the treasurer will be made.

The reports are expected to be emailed or presented to all managers or team representatives one week prior to the AGM.

Additionally, the NPSA is also scheduled to hold its election of officers for the next two years. The NPSA is currently headed by president Godfrey ‘Gully’ Burnside.

CHAMPION

AMATEUR BOXING

CHAMPION Amateur Boxing Club is all set to host an evening of amateur boxing starting at 8pm on Saturday, February 15, at the Wulff Road Boxing Square.

Six matches are expected to be showcased and awards will be presented for the best fight, most outstanding boxer and most improved boxer.

All amateur boxers and boxing clubs are welcome to participate.

In addition, Champion Amateur Boxing Club and the Platinum Sports Bar & Lounge are scheduled to host ‘The Spirit of Determination’ amateur boxing show 8pm March 1.

The show will recognise the Bahamas’ own boxing legends Cassius Moss and David ‘Sugar Kid’ Bowe.

BASKETBALL:

BSC REGISTRATION

THE Baptist Sports Council has announced that its 2014 basketball league is scheduled to get started at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex on Saturday, March 1.

The league will begin at 10am with a brief opening ceremony. That will be followed by the opening games in the 15-and-under division, followed by the 19-and-under and then the men’s division.

The BSC is also looking at the possibility of hosting either a co-ed or a ladies’ division, depending on teams’ interest. Interested churches can contact Brent Stubbs at stubbobs@gmail.com or 502-2363 for more details.
