Pirate town created at fort for Rum Festival

FESTIVAL Rum Bahamas is here this Friday, Saturday and Sunday and the “Rum Pirate” Town at Fort Charlotte is almost complete and includes more than 75 booths for local vendors selling their food, drinks art and crafts all locally made by local producers.

There will also be displays showing the history of rum and how it helped in developing the culture of the Caribbean.

Antonius Roberts, the prominent Bahamian artist, is setting up a fantastic artistic display and there will be a display by John Watling’s showing the rum making process.

There will be entertainment from the Scorch Conch Rake ’n Scrape band, street performers, fire manipulators, knife throwers and junkanoo rushouts with the ‘rummies’ where participation is encouraged.

Major performers like Funk D, Visage and the Ting UM band will be showcasing the event and it will also feature a light show.

Rums from all over the Caribbean will be available for sampling including Bacardi, Pyrat XO, Rhum Clement and Goslings.

Havana Club, Appleton and Babancourt will join many others whose rum “ambassadors” will be able to tell you about their process of making the Caribbean spirit.

Food will be a essential part of the festival with a variety of dishes available.
