HENRI Delauze, a young up and coming junior athlete, has signed to the University Of Miami, commonly referred to as “The U.”

Sixteen-year-old Delauze, a 400 metre specialist, has signed the national letter of intent and is now committed to the Hurricanes.

This young athlete is Grand Bahama’s 400m champion and record holder and is also the nation’s Scotiabank 2013 champion and record holder in the 400m.

Being a part of the winning Carifta 4 x 400m relay team in 2013, Henri has worked extremely hard to balance his school work with track and field, and all the hours of training and study have finally paid off.

Always having a passion for airplanes, Henri sought to attend a college that would enable him to further explore his dream of aeronautics.

The University of Miami seemed the perfect fit.

In June, 2013, Henri was also a member of the Bahamas World Youth team in the Ukraine. This experience further enhanced his desire not only to be a participant on the track but to thrive to be a top level athlete.

This has not been an easy road for Henri, but he realises that serious sacrifices are needed to accomplish his dreams.

Henri has always been a humble and understanding individual and attributes his success to those who help him both on and off the track.

Thanks to the hard work and due diligence of both his parents Loren and Chima Madu, who have always supported him in any endeavour that he chooses to do.

He also offered special thanks to Roger Charlton, the head coach of Freeport Pacers, who contributes countless hours of hard work and dedication to see Delauze flourish in the sport of track and field.

His love for the sport and his will to see young athletes improve are positive attributes which makes coach Charlton a great coach.

Injuries for athletes are the norm so Delauze also credits having good strength coaches like Big Rob and Kyle of Myo Genesis who have played a vital role in his performance.

After care and treatment rooms are also a very common place for athletes and sports therapist Pharez Cooper has made an immense contribution in keeping Delauze “healthy”.

Henri is excited about joining the “U” and prays for a healthy road and knows that hard work pays off.
