BISX market continues its slow recovery

THE Bahamas International Stock Exchange (BISX) yesterday reported a 9.06 per cent increase year-to-date in its All Share Index for the 12-month period ending December 31, 2013.
 In its January to December 2013 statistical report, BISX said the All-Share Index closed at 1,468.22, which represented a year to date increase of 121.96 or 9.06 per cent.

By comparison, for the year ending December 31, 2012, the BISX All-Share Index closed at 1,346.26, which represented a year-to-date decrease of 18.73 or 1.37 per cent.
 “For the three month period from October 1, 2013, to December 31, 2013, the All-Share Index increased by 61.97 or 4.41 per cent,” the exchange said.

“By comparison, for the three-month period from October 1, 2012, to December 30, 2012, the Index experienced an increase of 37.84 or 2.89 per cent.”

As at December 31, 2013, BISX featured 27 primary market listings with a market capitalisation of $2.998 billion. The primary market securities traded over BISX include 20 common share listings, three preference share listings and four tranches of debt.

There are 25 mutual funds listed on the BISX Mutual Fund Listing Facility with about $550 million in assets under management.
 “Trading volume for the 12-month period ending December 31, 2013, was 4,083,628 shares for a value of $17.426 million Trading volume for the 12-month period ending December 31, 2012, was 4,080,393 shares for a value of $18.892 million,” BISX said.
 “Trading volume for the three-month period October 1, 2013, to December 31, 2013, was 1,449,852 for a value of $5.712 million. By comparison, for the three month period from October 1, 2012, to December 31, 2012, 679,075 shares traded for a value of $3.732 million.” 
 According to the BISX report, for the 12-month period ending December 31, 2013, the average daily trading volume was 16,281 shares, which resulted in an average daily trading value of $69,382.

“By comparison, for the 12-month period December 31, 2012, the average daily trading volume was 16,146 shares for an average value of $74,433,” BISX added.
 “During the three-month period from October 1, 2013, to December 31, 2013, the average volume per trading day was 23,156 shares for a value of $90,829.

“By comparison, for the three-month period from October 1, 2012, to December 31, 2012, the average volume per trading day was 10,687 shares for an average value of $58,741.”
