A FEW more CARIFTA Games standards were posted, including a double feat by Malik Stuart and Brashae Wood, as the Road Runners Track and Field Club hosted its eighth annual Dianna Lynn Thompson Memorial Track and Field Classic at the Thomas A Robinson Track and Field Stadium on Saturday.

Meet director Dexter Bodie said he was very satisifed with the way the meet went and he was pleased that the local clubs and the spectators came out and took part.

“The turnout was magnificent and the performances were outstanding. Although we started off a little slow, we were able to pick things up. So I’m happy with the way things went,” he said. “But next year, I’m going to cut down on the 100 and 200 metres because they take up a lot of time with so many people wanting to run those events and we will concentrate more on the distance events, especially for the younger kids.”

Stuart, competing for Thrower’s Inc., threw the shot put 14.22 metres to surpass the under-18 boys qualifying mark of 14.10m and his toss of 43.62m in the discus was better than the standard of 41.50m for the games slated to be held in Martinique over the Easter holiday weekend.

Meanwhile Wood, who already made the standard in previous meets, went under the qualifying marks again as she won the shot put with 14.05m to go well above the under-18 girls’ mark of 12.00m. The Club Monica competitor also threw the discus 34.70m to surpass the qualifying mark of 34.50m.

The only two other marks came in the under-18 boys’ division.

Ken Munnings of Leap of Faith once again soared over the high jump qualifying mark of 1.87m when he won with 2.05m. And Tamar Greene from Jumpers Inc., turned in another qualifying performance in the triple jump with his winning leap of 14.88m. The qualifying mark is 11.40m.

Greene also won the long jump with a leap of 6.27m to join a few other competitors who pulled off double victories.

Among the winners on the female side were Paige Stuart of the Sunblazers in the under-12 100m (14.32) and 200m (29.14), Megan Moss of Club Monica in the under-14 400m (1:02.80) and long jump (4.33m), Daejah Moss also of the Striders in the under-14 100m (12.87) and long jump (1.60m), Tiffany Hanna of the X-Treme Athletics in the under-16 shot put (12.02m) and discus (23.81m), Vanillian Walker of the Ambassadors in the under-20 1,500m (6:01.90) and 400m hurdles (1:07.41) and Raygene Minus of Bahamas High Performance in the open 200m (25.81) and 400m (58.18).

On the male side, Ruben Cooper of the Striders Track Club took the under-14 100m (12.83) and long jump (5.10m) and Xavier Coakley of Club Monica came through in the under-20 110 hurdles (14.83) and the 400m hurdles (54.74).

The meet also saw the return of LaQuan Nairn from an injury. He won the under-20 boys’ long jump with a leap of 6.36m. Ryan Ingraham won the men’s open high jump with 2.14m, Lamar Delaney of PVS Sports cleared 14.90m to win the men’s triple jump, Sheldon Ferguson of the Road Runners ran 11.95 for the victory in the men’s 100m and Petra McDonald did 13.05 for the female title.
