VAT too much of a gamble

EDITOR, The Tribune.

Thank you very much for allowing me space in your most valuable paper and on the subject of implementing of VAT in 2014.

Following the perusing and studying of that system and the various comments given on the matter, plus my overall light and understanding of the VAT system, Watch D’ feels it is not something that suits the Bahamas at this time, although there were notes made of how it didn’t ill effect one or two other countries – let’s just remember “what may be good for the goose may not always be good for the gander”.

There were also checked and proven reports of how the VAT system had negatively affected some other small-time countries.

It is too much of a gamble to bring this system online now in the Bahamas, and should be reconsidered by the Bahamas government, then put on hold indefinitely by executive orders.

It should not be left up to Bahamians to decide through polls or referendums either, one may also believe that the economy of this country will decline immensely whereby most of the individual citizens could all eventually be reduced to poverty level, plus the Bahamas currency value may drop significantly, so Watch D’ is seriously appealing to the Bahamas government to review that law of VAT going into effect in 2014. Sign the petition - no to VAT.
