POLICE are on the hunt for two men who robbed and killed a man while on a public bus yesterday evening.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Anthony Ferguson said police believe the victim was shot during an armed robbery around 6pm.

“I can tell you that he was shot on the bus in his side and we are actively looking for two men who we believe to be responsible,” he said.

“We believe they jumped off the bus, after shooting the man in his side in the area of Kelly’s Lumber Yard on East Street. From what we know there were many persons on the bus at the time of the shooting, how much we do not know but we know the bus was not full – there were a couple of persons. It appears to have been a robbery, from all indications, that is what we are getting.”

ACP Ferguson is asking anyone who might have been in the area at the time of the shooting, or anyone who might have been on the bus to contact police at 911 or 919, the Central Detective Unit at 502-9991 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 328 -TIPS.

According to reports, the driver of the bus, on route #1, pulled up to the Quakoo and Market Streets police station and alerted officers of an incident that happened on the bus.

Police conducted a search of the bus and discovered the victim lying on the floor near entrance to the bus. He had been shot in his side. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigations are continuing.
