VOLLEYBALL

NPVA CHAMPIONSHIP DECIDER

ANOTHER big night at the DW Davis Gymnasium Wednesday in the New Providence Volleyball Association as the fourth game of the men’s best-of-five championship series was played.

The Technicians, with their backs against the wall, got off to an early start and took the first two tough sets 25-23, 25-23. The Defenders bounced back to stay alive and secure the third set 25-17.

With chants from the crowd “win or go home,” the Technicians, who trailed the entire fourth set, would rebound to take the set and game 25-23. The win forced a fifth and deciding game five which will be played 8pm Friday.

Renaldo Knowles? led the Technicians and all scorers with 19 kills, one block and five aces. Muller Petit? assisted with 16 kills and two aces. Eric Johnson? completed 10 digs and 32 receptions to go with Audril Farquharson?’s 54 assists.

For the losing Defenders, Ian “Wire” Pinder? finished with 20 kills and two blocks. Shedrick Forbes? had 12 kills, Jamaal Ferguson? seven digs and Tony Simon two aces and 57 assists. Game five is set for 8pm Friday.

BASKETBALL

NPBA ACTION

THE Double R Services Cleaners and the Pyramid Food Rockets won the New Providence Basketball Association’s double header Wednesday night at the AF Adderley Gymnasium. While the Cleaners beat the Defence Force Marines 103-69, the Rockets clobbered the College of the Bahamas Caribs 82-56.

Lenny Oscar exploded for a game high 29 points with eight rebounds, Tamiko King had 16 points and three rebounds, Trevor Greene 14 points and five rebounds and Omal Deveaux 13 points in the win for the Double R Services.

In a losing effort, Otis Ferguson had 16 points with four rebounds and two assists, Blair Allen had 12 points and four rebounds and Elway Pickstock finished with 11 points and five rebounds.

Rockets 82, Caribs 56

Tamiko Moxey and Ryan Turnquest both had 17 points with five and three rebounds respectively to power the Pyramid Food to victory. Henderson Curry chipped in wth 13 points, nine rebounds and six assists.

In a losing effort, Alvano Laing had 14 points and seven rebounds and Justin Munroe added 13 points and five rebounds.

THE New Providence Women’s Basketball Association is scheduled to continue its first round playoff series at the DW Davis Gymnasium with the following games on Saturday night.

JR BOYS TOURNEY

THE Randi-Mac Tigers Junior Boys’ Basketball Tournament wrapped up over the weekend at the DW Davis Gymnasium with the DW Davis Pitbulls pulling off a 53-41 decision over the HO Nash Lions for the title. The Aquinas College Aces secured the consolation third place with a 56-45 victory over the TA Thompson Scorpions. The four other teams in the tournament, finishing in respective order, were the Temple Christian Suns, Mt Carmel Cavaliers, Kingsway Academy Saints, Acklins All-Age and Akephen.

BOWLING

FINACIAL BOLING LEAGUE

NO bowling team has ever gone an entire season winless. The team of Price Waterhouse Coopers came the closest to doing just that this season. Into the 17th week of 26, the team had not won a game. It was not until the last frame of the last game that Price Waterhouse Coopers outperformed Deloitte & Touche in a stunner to capture its first win of the season.

In other scores, Deloitte & Touche def. Price Waterhouse Coopers 2-1; Fidelity Bulldogs def. Rubis Oil Stars 2-1; Forsythe Communications def. Leno Corporate Services 2-1; Moonlight Strikers def. BTC Night Hawks 2-1 and Strike Force def. Sunshine Insurance 2-1.

THE New Providence Cycling Association released the following schedule of events for the month of March:

Saturday, March 1

9:30am - BMX Ride/Youth Rise at the National Cycling Track

Sunday, March 9 - 8am - Road race start and finish at the Oasis Restaurant

Sunday, March 16 - Road Race, details to be announced

Saturday, March 29 - second annual Road Race - One Day Tour, starting at 7:30am and finishing at Clifton Heritage.
