POLICE called on the public to come forward with any information that might assist murder investigations after the third murder for the year in two days - and the fifth in just three days.
Paul Rolle, Officer in Charge of the Central Detective Unit, last night emphasised that crime was the collective responsibility of all Bahamians.
He added that the police force was not discouraged by the spate of violent crime.
According to the police, a man was gunned down by the occupants of a gold coloured car while at Taylor Street, off East Street, shortly after 8pm.
The first murder of 2014 took place at around 2am Tuesday. Police say the victim was sitting on a vehicle in Hospital Lane, when a man armed with a handgun approached him and shot him several times before fleeing on foot.
The victim was taken to hospital by a private vehicle where he died of his injuries.
These shooting incidents come just days after Prime Minister Perry Christie revealed the governments new plan to tackle crime.
Some of the initiatives include, re-introducing the 12-hour shift for police, creating a gang unit and passing laws to bind the hands of judges to prevent them from allowing persons accused of serious crimes to be granted bail.
Anyone with information on any of these incidents is asked to contact police at 911 or 919, the Central Detective Unit at 502-9991 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 328-TIPS.

In all honesty you really feel that Perry making progress in the so called buy back for BTC. All he doing is shuffling with that and everything else. Watch him good its no coincidence that he has those moves down to a science. His style of leadership follows.

Meanwhile, my ostrich has laid a mighty big egg unfortunately it has no value as a precious metal. Ostrich egg's are yummy though, but I have to wait so long before it lays another. Also if you eat too many ostrich eggs, especially mine, you might turn into one yourself. People think my Ostrich is a Emu but time and time again I have to reiterate that my Ostrich is a ratite relative of the Emu and is much larger than my Ostrich. Anyway, time to take my ostrich out to ride across the Serengeti like a Stallion in the shadows.

Despite the headlines Bahamaland remains a much safer country than most of our tourism grouping. Am i downplaying the seriousness of our crime, of course not. But the media has to make up its mind, if it will be part of the solution or play the role of leader of the game of politics.

im not sure what countries are included in the grouping so its hard to agree or disagree with the statement. That said, as a tourist I would avoid the grouping altogether. There are safer places to visit.
when carnival is telling people its not save, its not a good thing. Im sure they do not do this lightly either.

I would support the death penalty if there was any evidence that it actually helped to reduce serious crime. Unfortunately, it doesn't. Just look at the statistics from the States. The world at large is moving away from the use of the death penalty because governments understand that it has no effect. What The Bahamas does need is a complete overhaul of the criminal justice system whereby persons charged with armed offences are tried promptly and efficiently. This is going to require a huge financial investment and recognition by all political parties that foreign assistance is absolutely necessary. It will also require a complete change in the mindset of all Bahamians. There must be a zero tolerance approach to all forms of crime and corruption. This cannot happen however until our politicians are prepared to lead by example.

The Bahamas cannot solve the crime problem on its own. We simply do not have the expertise. So the obvious solution is we engage those who have faced similar problems and dealt with them successfully. In order to follow through with this, politicians have to set aside their egos. In addition the Bahamian people do indeed have to look at themselves in the mirror and accept that the time has come for a complete change in our attitude towards wrong doing. It is time for a new political party to emerge comprising of persons with impeccable moral credentials who will stand up for what is right. Such persons would be prepared to make the best decisions for The Bahamas and not their own self interest. This would be a party founded on righteousness and every member would be carefully vetted. It would be led by persons of the calibre of Dr. Myles Munroe. The electorate would flock to such a party because the country is sick and tired of the corrupt practices of our politicians and the destructive nature of the current two party tribal political system. Wouldn't you vote for such a party? Wouldn't you want to join such a party? We'll go to it Bahamas. The time is nigh.

Local media sources via international reaching social media and weblogs fed unchecked news as crime facts. Local media is a "for-profit" business and the more it struggles for a piece of a much smaller advertising dollars pie, it will run with unchecked, sensational readership grabbing headlines. even if it means putting fear into their readers for the almighty advertising dollars it. It has resulted in each local media source to intensify the sensational punch behind their crime headlines. Crime in Bahamaland has been on the bad for a number of years. Its not new. It has gone unchecked by successive governments for far too damn long.

China is the only country of the many I have visited, where I actually saw orphanages with Armed Guard Houses and Metal Retractable Gates. Maybe Comrade "Red" Liang Chang would like to explain the need for such heavy security, not that anyone can blame the little Chinese citizens for wanting to escape some of the most miserable Hell Holes on earth?
