AFTER joining the Racers Track Club last year in Kingston, Jamaica, in her pursuit to become one of the top sprinters in the world, Cache Armbrister is back and she’s looking forward to bigger and better things this year.

Here on a brief break for the Christmas holiday, Armbrister said she has a surprise for everyone as she hasn’t decided yet whether or not she will return to running the 400 metres prior to going to Jamaica, or she will continue to run the 100m as she ended up doing after joining the Racers Track Club.

“Training is going really well,” said Armbrister, who is working out with the coaching staff headed by Glen Mills in the club that is headed by world champions Usain Bolt and Yohan Blake.

“I have two new training partners in Kerron Stewart and Schillonie Calvert, so training has been really intense. We’ve been pushing each other a lot, so that helps.”

After running fast enough to qualify for the IAAF World Championships in Moscow, Russia on the heels of competing at the Central American and Caribbean Championships in Mexico in the century, Armbrister said she’s keeping everything under wraps until she participates in her season opener at the Camperdown Classic at the National Stadium in Kingston on February 8.

“Everybody’s been asking me are you going to run the 100, or the 200 or the 400, but I know what I’m going to run this season,” she stated. “It’s going to be a surprise. Whatever I open up with in my first meet will be the event that I will be contesting this year.”

Not letting the cat out of the bag, Armbrister said she doesn’t want to reveal any projections for the year, except to say that she anticipates running really fast.

“You can look forward to seeing a more focused and stronger athlete,” she said. “I’ve gotten a lot stronger over the past few months because I put in a whole offseason, doing a lot of technical things to my race, so it’s going to be very interesting to see what will happen this year.”

The 24-year-old Armbrister, a former St Augustine’s College and Auburn University standout, was recognised and presented with an award for representing the Bahamas at both the CAC Championships and the World Championships at the annual Zenith Awards and Fundraising banquet that was held at the Jamaica Pegasus on Saturday, November 30.
