Five sentenced to jail time

FREEPORT – Five Grand Bahama men charged with housebreaking and stealing were convicted and sentenced to incarceration in Her Majesty Prison.

Leroy Hield, 49; Alex Rolle, 18; and Terrell Hield, 19; all residents of Freetown, appeared before Deputy Chief Magistrate Helen Jones in Court Three in reference to a stealing incident that occurred at Club Fortuna on January 3.

The men were charged with one count of stealing from a house and an additional count of stealing.

They all pleaded guilty to the charges.

All of the stolen items were recovered, including two televisions and one Kindle Fire.

Magistrate Jones ordered that all the items be returned to the owners.

Leroy Hield was sentenced to three years in prison. Alex Rolle was sentenced to one year.

Terrell Hield was fined $4,000, and in default, he will serve one year at HMP.

In other court matters, one man and a 16-year-old boy were also convicted of housebreaking and stealing in the Eight Mile Rock Magistrates Court.

The man, Richard Russell, 18, of Martin Town, Eight Mile Rock, appeared before Magistrate Gwen Claude on Monday along with the juvenile.

They pleaded guilty to a housebreaking and stealing incident in the Pinder’s Point area on November 2013. A stolen laptop was recovered by police.

They were both sentenced to serve two years in Her Majesty’s Prison.
