VOLLEYBALL

NPVA ACTION

THE New Providence Volleyball Association continued its regular season at the Donald Davis Gymnasium on Wednesday night.

In the ladies’ opener, it took the Johnson Cherry Bombs three quick sets to dispose of the Cubs 25-12, 25-16 and 25-10. Kelsie Johnson led the Cherry Bombs with six kills and four aces. In a losing effort, Courtnee Stevens finished with four kills and three aces.

In men’s action, the Technicians, behind Renaldo Knowles’ 14 kills and a block, also quickly disposed of the Saints 25-17, 25-20 and 25-20. In the loss, Kenton Dawkins led the Saints with five kills, four blocks and an ace. The league is scheduled to be back in action with another double header tonight.

THE New Providence Basketball Association continued its regular season at the DW Davis Gymaction on Wednesday night.

Rockets 104, Cybots 90

Kevin Hinsey exploded for a game high 31 points with eight rebounds as the Pyramid Food Service stunned the defending champions Mail Boat. Tameko Moxey had 20 points and five rebounds, Garvin Lightbourne had 15 points and Barry Carter chipped in with 12 points and 11 rebounds. For the Cybots, Ernest Saunders scored 23 points with five assists, Eugene Bain had 17 points and nine rebounds, Roosevelt Whylly had 10 points and 11 rebounds and Jermaine Storr added 10 points with six rebounds.

Shockers 101, Cleaners 91

Floyd Armbrister canned a game high 29 points with four assists and three rebounds to lead the Real Deal to a win over Double R Services Limited. Ishmael Curtis had 16 points with nine rebounds, Salathiel Dean had 15 points and 12 rebounds and Vernon Stubbs contributed 15 points as well. In the loss for the Cleaners, Lenny Oscar had 25 points with 12 rebounds, Tamiko King had 21 points and seven rebounds, Lamount Amaly had 17 points and Trevor Greene helped out with 10 points and nine rebounds.

Thw NPBA is slated to be back in action with another double header tonight starting at 7:30pm. They will also play a double header on Saturday at the same time.

CONDOLENCES

THE Tribune Sports Department wishes to extend its condolences to the family of the late Miles Yallop.

Yallop, 60, was a member of the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture’s staff, serving as the liaison officer for both gymnastics and the Bahamas Hotrod Association.

Yallop will be laid to rest on Sunday in St Agnes Cemetery, following his funeral service at the Good News Seveth-Day Adventist Church on Carmichael Road. May his soul rest in peace.
