Barracuda swimmers dominate overall categories at Swift meet

BARRACUDA swimmers dominated the overall categories in the Swift meet at Betty Kelly Kenning National Swimming Complex over the weekend.

Hodari Prince was awarded third place overall in the eight-and-under boys category.

Mandia Roberts won first place overall in the 9-10 girls category. Amber Pinder won first place overall in the 11-12 girls division.

For the 11-12 boys, Samuel Gibson won first place overall and Izaak Bastian achieved second place overall.

In the 13–14 girls category, Sian Longley was awarded third place overall. Doran Reed made her mark in the 15-and-over girls category, placing second overall.

Barracudas made a clean sweep in the 15-and-over boys category as Gershwin Greene won first place overall, N’Nyhn Fernander was awarded second place and Kohen Kerr ended up third.

Competition started on Friday evening and culminated with finals on Saturday night. This swim meet was the first of the 2014 swim season and the Barracuda Swim Club is excited by the show of dominance displayed by their swimmers.

In a fiercely competitive climate, the Barracuda Carifta 2014 hopefuls maintain their national rankings. Amber Pinder (11-12 girls) holds the first spots in 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke, 50 butterfly, 100m butterfly, 200M IM and 400M IM. She has the second spot in 200M butterfly, 50M backstroke, 400M freestyle, and 200M freestyle.

Samuel Gibson (11-12 boys) holds the first spots in 50M freestyle, 100M freestyle, 200M freestyle, 50M butterfly, 100M butterfly, 200M butterfly and the second spots in 400M freestyle, 100M backstroke, 200M backstroke, 200M IM and 400M IM.

Izaak Bastian (11-12 boys) holds the first spots in 50M breaststroke, 100M breaststroke, 200M breaststroke, 200M IM. Doran Reed (15-17 girls) is ranked first in 50M backstroke and second in 100M backstroke and 200M backstroke.

Gershwin Greene (15-17 boys) holds the first spot in 50M freestyle, and second in 50M backstroke. N’Nhyn Fernander (15-17 boys) is ranked first in 50M butterfly, and second in 50M freestyle. Kohen Kerr (15-17 boys) holds the first spots in 50M freestyle, 200M butterfly and second in 200M freestyle and 100M butterfly.

“We are not the biggest club, but we pride ourselves on practicing integrity, sportsmanship, and strong work ethics both inside and outside of the pool,” said Barracuda’s club president Dion Gibson.

“Our swimmers train hard and this training served them well this past weekend. We will not rest on our laurels, but we are determined to work harder and get better at each meet. The Barracuda Insurance Management Swim Meet is slated for January 31 to February 1 and our kids are ready to perform once again.”
