PM set for summit in Cuba

PRIME Minister Perry Christie was scheduled to land in Havana, Cuba this morning for the second summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).

With Mr Christie at the CELAC summit, which takes place January 28-29, will be, Minister of Foreign Affairs Fred Mitchell, Minister of Labour and National Insurance Shane Gibson, State Minister for Transport and Aviation Hope Strachan, Bahamian Ambassador to Cuba Alma Adams, and other officials.

In a statement released over the weekend, the Cuban Embassy in Nassau said: “With the attendance of a Bahamian delegation to the CELAC Summit, the government of this Caribbean nation reiterates its commitment with the political consultation mechanisms of the region, attributing at the same time paramount importance to an organisation such as CELAC, the work of which is based on solidarity among members, mutual respect and co-operation.

“CELAC is consolidating itself into a viable alternative in the face of traditional mechanisms of interchange among nations.”

Cuban Ambassador to the Bahamas Ernesto Soberon Guzman was at Sir Lynden Pindling International Airport to see off the delegation.
