THE Cat Island Sailing Club will embark on a public relations blitz for the month of February and have designated it “Promote Cat Island Regatta Month” February 1-28.

According to its president, Pat Strachan, “we will go on a month-long promotion to inform the public of our agenda for 2014. The theme for our 58th Annual Regatta in 2014 is ‘The Greatest Show on Earth.’ As the new president, I have an aggressive agenda for my term.”

The sailing club will use this opportunity to appear on a number of radio stations.

“Our goal,” said Strachan, “is to create a higher awareness in the public and raise the profile of the club. We will visit a number of radio stations and publish press releases. We are almost 60 years old and we want the public to know that our members have re-committed and refocused their energies to ensure that we have a successful 2014 Regatta.”

The regatta is scheduled for August 1-4 in New Bight, Cat Island.

“In addition, we have a number of fund-raising events planned,”Strachan said. “And our committee chairmen will be informing the public and promoting those events.”

Strachan has made it a priority to renovate the sailing club in New Bight. “Next to hosting the greatest show on earth,” Strachan said, “my goal is to install new air-conditioning units, renovate the male and female bathrooms and close up the ceiling. We are seeking donations in the form of material from any Cat Islander, descendant of Cat Island or friend of Cat Island or anyone who wants to assist.”

President Strachan’s other goal includes the awarding of two scholarships. “Our goal is to award two scholarships to two deserving students in Cat Island, one from the north and one from the south. We believe that when we invest in our young people, we are investing in the future of Cat Island and by extension the Bahamas.”

Promote Cat Island Regatta Month is slated to will run from February 1– 28.
