TWO men will stand trial in 2017 for the gold-chain snatching and murder of a man in his Family Island home. They face the death penalty if convicted.

Dimitri Rolle, 27, and Giordano Rolle Jr, 18, both of Ramsey, Exuma, were formally arraigned for murder and armed robbery in the Supreme Court yesterday in the death of Dwayne Finniken on February 18 in Exuma.

The murder charge under section 291 (1a) of the Penal Code chapter 84 gives the court the discretion to consider the death penalty as punishment if an accused is convicted of murder, allegedly committed while carrying out armed robbery.

Both men pleaded not guilty to the capital charge before Senior Justice Jon Isaacs.

It is claimed that the two, while armed with a handgun and shotgun, robbed Mr Finniken of cash, a gold necklace and a hand chain before killing him. Mr Finnikin, also known as Dwayne Nixon, was at home with another man when two men armed with firearms entered the residence.

One of the men shot the victim several times before they fled on foot. The 23-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene by the island’s local doctor.

The pair are now scheduled to stand trial before Justice Carolita Bethell on February 13, 2017.

The Privy Council won't allow them to pay for their crimes. They've got nothing to worry about. They can come out in a few years and kill again - no problem.

I don't even understand why Judges even consider such sentences. Anyone found guilty by a jury of murder in this country should receive a sentence of 5 hours community service. I mean why bother with the whole penalty phase with the Appeals Court etc. when we know that we do not have the authority under England to run our Courts ?
