POLICE are on the hunt for 22-year-old Rex Rahming of Palmetto Point for questioning in connection with the murder of a teen who was beaten and stabbed in Eleuthera over the weekend.

According to Supt Paul Rolle, officer in charge of the Central Detective Unit, police also have an 18-year-old boy in custody in connection with Hayward Thompson’s murder.

Police said Thompson’s body was found around 9am Sunday in an unfinished building at T W Alley and Culmer Street in North Palmetto Point. He had been stabbed in the back, arm and neck.

Police were alerted to the body by a passerby who noticed blood on nearby steps.

Katie Thompson, the victim’s mother, told The Tribune that her son had recently reported death threats that he had received in Governor’s Harbour.

Ms Thompson, a 45-year-old Palmetto Point resident, said she was shocked to learn that her son was beaten and stabbed to death less than a month after his birthday.

The teenager turned 18 on June 15, his family told The Tribune.

The boy’s distressed mother believes his murder could have been prevented.

The Tribune attempted to contact the police station in Governor’s Harbour to determine if a complaint had been filed by the teenager, however calls were not returned up to press time.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Rex Rahming is asked to contact the police at 911 or 919, the Central Detective Unit at 502-9991 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 328-TIPS.
