A MAN was charged in Magistrate’s Court yesterday for the murder of an Eleuthera teen.

Rex Rahming, 22, of Palmetto Point appeared before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt to face a charge of murder under Section 291 (1B) of the Penal Code, Chapter 84. A charge under this section does not attract the death penalty.

It is alleged that Rahming, on July 6 at Eleuthera, caused the death of Hayward Thompson.

Around 9am on the day in question, Thompson’s body was discovered in an unfinished building at T W Alley and Culmer Street in North Palmetto Point. Police were alerted to the body by a passerby who noticed blood on nearby steps. He was found with multiple stab wounds.

In yesterday’s arraignment, Rahming was informed that he would not be allowed to enter a plea to the charge due to the nature of the offence.

He was further told that at his next Magistrate’s Court appearance, September 8, he would be served with a Voluntary Bill of Indictment that would forward the case to Supreme Court.

It is at the higher court that the accused will enter a plea and receive a trial date depending on how he pleads to the offence. The chief magistrate remanded Rahming to Her Majesty’s Prisons in the interim.

Rahming has retained Lennox Coleby to defend him.
