GRAND Bahama Little League, Team Bahamas’ host team - was able to rebound from a pair of early losses to finish with consecutive wins in the preliminary round of the Caribbean Zone Little League Regional Tournament.

GBLL recorded their second consecutive victory with a 13-2 win over the Cayman Islands yesterday at the Emera Caribbean Baseball Park in Freeport, Grand Bahama.

The win over Cayman followed a hard fought 3-2 win over tournament contender the US Virgin Islands, who currently tops the standings in Pool A.

GBLL, at 2-2, is the only team in the pool that has completed its four preliminary games.

The USVI, Puerto Rico, and Bonaire are all 2-1 while Cayman is still searching for its first win at 0-3.

The USVI defeated Cayman 16-1 and followed with a 7-0 win over the defending Caribbean Zone champions, Puerto Rico.

Puerto Rico has a pair of shutouts on its tournament rsum, 20-0 over Bonaire and 10-0 over GBLL.

Bonaire has also defeated Cayman, 16-6, but it was their thrilling three run win over the Bahamas’ host team which will keep GBLL out of the medal round.

The Bahamas lost a heartbreaker to Bonaire, 13-10, due to some late game heroics from the visitors.

Tied at 10 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Bonaire blasted a three run home run to seal the win and eliminate GBLL from medal contention.

Rain halted play yesterday afternoon, therefore the game between Team Bahamas’ area team Freedom Farm and Aruba was rescheduled to 9am Wednesday.

Other games today to complete the preliminary round will include Puerto Rico against the Cayman Islands and the USVI against Bonaire.

The Farmers have secured a berth in the medal round as the only undefeated team thus far in Pool B at 2-0. They scored an historic win over nine-time Caribbean Zone and former Little League world champion Curacao 11-3, and a 34-0 win over the Dominican Republic.

Curacao finished the round at 2-1, while Aruba is currently 1-1 and the Dominican Republic winless at 0-3.

Curacao previously defeated Aruba 4-2 and the Dominican Republic, 14-2. Aruba’s win in the group came against the Dominican Republic, 22-2.

Weather permitting, the semi-final round is slated for Thursday afternoon beginning with the No.2 seed in Pool B taking on the No.1 seed in Pool A.

The other half of the semi-final will follow at 4pm with the No.2 seed in Pool A against the No. 1 seed in Pool B.

The bronze-medal game is set for 1pm Friday followed by the championship game at 4pm.

The winner of the tournament will represent the Caribbean at the prestigious 2014 Little League World Series, hosted in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
