Shooting leaves woman in hospital

POLICE are seeking the public’s help in solving a shooting incident yesterday morning that left a woman in hospital with gunshot injuries to her back.

Shortly after 9am, two men armed with firearms were involved in an altercation on Sutton Street when the woman was shot in her back. She was rushed to the hospital and is listed in serious condition.

Police are also investigating a stabbing incident that happened yesterday shortly after 1am when a man at Cordeaux Avenue and East Street was stabbed in the head by another man who fled on foot. The victim was transported to the hospital, where he is detained in stable condition.

In addition, police are seeking the public’s help in solving an armed robbery that happened on Thursday involving two men who were walking on West Bay Street when they were robbed of a cell phone and cash by two men who later fled on foot. Police officers also took a 26-year-old man into custody shortly after 1am yesterday for questioning pertaining to a murder that happened last year.

Furthermore, a team of officers from the Northeastern Division conducted a major police operation in that division on Thursday night that resulted in numerous arrests. The operation targeted people wanted for major and minor offences. The operation resulted in 16 people being arrested for house breaking, three for threats of harm, two for causing harm, one for assault, one for threats of death and causing damage and one for stealing and assault.

Officers of the Mobile Division unit also arrested three people on Thursday night for outstanding criminal complaints, two for outstanding criminal warrants, one for deceit of a public officer, one for assault and one for fraudulent document.
