THREE people have died during separate traffic accidents over the weekend in New Providence and Eleuthera.

In the most recent incident, at about 8.30pm last night, a man crossing the road to his car was struck and killed by a RAV 4 being driven south along Market Street.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene - just outside Quakoo Street Police Station.

Shortly after 4am yesterday, police reported that a man and woman in a white Honda Civic crashed into a utility pole while heading south on Bethel Avenue north.

Police said the female driver lost control of the car and after hitting the pole, the car careened a few feet along a cliff before coming to a stop.

The male passenger, identified by friends on Facebook as Andre Wallace, died at the scene. The female was taken to hospital, where she is detained in serious condition.

Images of the crash scene spread quickly on social media and showed the devastating damage the Honda Civic sustained after the crash.

Numerous people who claimed to be familiar with Mr Wallace expressed their sorrow at his death on Facebook.

One person said: “So devastating, may his soul RIP (rest in peace).”

Another Facebook user said: “You (were) always heavy on my heart; out of sight but not out of mind. RIP friend, I will miss us rowing or when I used to call your name.”

Another friend said: “Andy you will be missed dearly. I’m lost for words.”

Unconfirmed reports claimed Mr Wallace was the owner of a bar in the Palmdale area.

Police are also investigating an accident which left a pedestrian in Eleuthera dead.

The incident took place shortly after 5am on Saturday. A man was driving his white Nissan taxi east on the Airport Road in North Eleuthera when he struck a man walking on the road, killing him at the scene.

The incident is being investigated.
