SEVENTEEN-year-old Sade Colebrook has been crowned Miss Grand Bahama, beating eight other contestants at Le Chateau on the Green on Sunday night.

A recent graduate of the Sunland Baptist Academy, she hopes to pursue Baccalaureate studies in the Performing Arts and a Masters in Business Management, concentrating on graphic design.

She dreams of opening the first Performing Arts Academy in Freeport, offering classes that help people connect to their African roots, ultimately encouraging youth to appreciate their culture.

Ms Colebrook, who once struggled with issues of self esteem, hopes that she can inspire other young ladies with the same issues to love and accept themselves for who they are. “I am who I am and I love it!” she remarked.

This year’s pageant was held under the theme “Celebrating 28 Years of Beauty on Grand Bahama” as the organisation looked back on former beauty queens. They were Patrice Degregory (1970), Lolita Armbrister (1978), Lisa Bartlett (1981), Pamela Parker (1983), Tasha Ramirez (1988), Vanessa Ferguson (1988), Bernadette Lightbourne (1993), Donna Gray (1996), Brittney Lightbourne (2007), Nathalee Brown (2007), Kerel Pinder (2008), Nikie Severe (2009), Tempestt Bullard (2010), Keriann Stuart (2011), Kristie Farah (2012), Shequera King (2013) and the reigning Miss Grand Bahama, Lashanda Wildgoose.

This year, Pageant organisers focused their attention on also recruiting contestants in the East End, Eight Mile Rock and West End communities.

Ms Colebrook, who was sponsored by Exquisite Collection, is a former first runner up in the 2012 Miss Talented Grand Bahama. She has a passion for the marine life and theatre. Her hobbies are singing, dancing and painting.

“I love travelling and experiencing new cultures, exotic foods, and meeting new people,” she said. Ms Colebrook also volunteers at the YMCA and ICAN camp and the Humane Society.
