A MAN on bail for a triple murder was shot Monday after opening fire on police officers who were attempting to arrest him on Cowpen Road.

Police said they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting which left the suspect in hospital under heavy police guard.

According to police, shortly after 9:30am Monday, officers went to Cowpen Road where they saw the 35-year-old man who they had wanted to question in connection with other investigations.

Officers claim that when the suspect made eye contact with them, he fired several shots at the officers who returned gun fire. The man fled on foot and managed to elude police.

Later, he turned up at the Carmichael Road Police Station suffering from gunshot wounds in his body, police said.

He was taken to the Princess Margaret Hospital where he is detained in stable condition.

In 2011, the suspect who is a resident of Cowpen Road was charged with the shooting deaths of a man and two women. One of the women was pregnant at the time of the incident. The shooting happened at an apartment in the Carmichael Road area where the victims lived.

In other crime news, two men ages 32 and 24, are in police custody following the discovery on Tuesday of a firearm and a quantity of dangerous drugs.

Shortly before 2am, Mobile Division officers were on patrol in White’s Addition off Kemp Road, when they observed a 32-year-old man acting suspiciously. Upon seeing the officers, police said the man fled into his nearby home. A chase followed, resulting in officers searching the suspect’s home where they uncovered marijuana.

Moments later, police searched the 24-year-old suspect outside of the home and found a handgun with ammunition in his possession. Both men are expected to be formally charged in the courts later this week.

Police in Exuma uncovered a small quantity of cocaine and marijuana in a bushy area at the Old Airport Road in Bahama Sound.

Officers made the discovery shortly after 8pm on Monday. However, they said no arrests were made in connection with the find.

He's been free on bail for THREE YEARS on a triple murder charge? No trial? Even in the U.S. there is no bail on a murder charge. None. Our legal system is a bad joke.
