TENNIS

THE Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association held its election of officers on April 30.

The new president is Elwood Donaldson, the former treasurer. The first vice-president is Kevin Major and the second-vice president is Tim Dames. Darnette Weir is the secretary with Ellen Moxey as her assistant. The new treasurer is Omar Smith, assisted by Lawrence Daxon.

Elected as council members are Ivan Shepherd, Kim O’Kelley, Dwayne Gibson, Ceron Rolle and Neil Mactaggart. Elected as the Directors of the National Tennis Center are Derron Donaldson as the chairman; Elwood Donaldson, vice-chairman and directors Perry Newton Jr and Barbara Carey.

The executive board is expected to visit Government House this week to pay a courtesy call on Governor General, Arthur Foulkes and his wife, Lady Foulkes.

SOFTBALL/BASEBALL

The family, friends and team-mates of Kervan ‘Puckett’ Culmer are inviting the public to participate in a streak out to assist with the former player and coach’s medical fund. The streak out will be held on Saturday, June 28 from noon to 6 pm at Perpall Track Park, West Bay Street. The donation is $10.00.

FOOTBALL

ERICO Forbes, a 6-feet, 6-inches, 310-pound native of Freeport, Grand Bahama, and a graduate of Washington State University (where he played football), has opted to play in the Canadian Football League for the next two seasons. Forbes chose to the Canadian Football League, BC Lions so that he can play right away to build experience versus being on the practice squad on an NFL roster.

Forbes was also given a two-year contract with a signing bonus. His goal is to be a starter in the NFL when he’s done with the CFL. He is another success story coming out of the Frank Rutherford Foundation in Houston, Texas where he excelled with his college degree and now professional football contract.
