Grand Bahamas local govt electoral race underway

THE Local government electoral race is in full swing in Grand Bahama as 96 persons throughout the island vie for available seats in three districts. Elections are set for June 23.

Candidate billboards have been erected at various major thoroughfares in the City of Freeport district, where 24 candidates are vying for the nine available seats.

The City of Freeport District has four townships. Central Grand Bahama has two seats, East Grand Bahama has two, Marco City has three and Pineridge has two. All nine of those are being contested. However, in West and East Grand Bahama some of the areas are uncontested.

The candidates for Central Grand Bahama are: Marco Antonio Carey, Dianne Carol Coakley, Joneth Edden, Frazette Gibson, Leslie Lightbourne and Derick Sands.

Candidates for East Grand Bahama are: Chavaz Campbell, Allen Cornelius Johnson, Don Angelo Martin, Portia Eloise Pelecanos, Charlene Elizabeth Reid-Morris and Navar Lionel Smith.

Candidates for Marco City are: Harold Adderley, Chervita Campbell, Kevin Ferguson, Damien Fox, Omes Lockhart-Lightbourne, Othniel Mackey, Keitron Meadows and Solomon Morley,

Candidates for Pineridge are: Melvina Albury, Jennifer Ellis, Clifton Francis and Erris Willis Hutcheson.

A total of 19 candidates are nominated for the East Grand Bahama District, seven are uncontested.

In East Grand Bahama Polling Division 2A (High Rock) they are: Pedyson Baillou, Magdalene Mather, Elvenia McIntosh and Ericka Roberts.

In East Grand Bahama Polling Division 2B (Freetown, Bevans Town, Gambier Point, Gold Rock Creek) the uncontested candidates are: Glenroy Cooper and Marcus Cooper.

In East Grand Bahama Polling Division (Water Cay), Arthur Hiram Hield is the uncontested candidate.

In East Grand Bahama Polling Division 9B (Mather Town, Smith’s Point and Laing Town) the uncontested candidate is Edwin Edden.

A total of 53 candidates are nominated in the West Grand Bahama District, 14 uncontested.

In the West Grand Bahama & Bimini Polling Division 4, the uncontested candidates are Sophia Dean and Kevin Morris.

In the West Grand Bahama Polling Division 5, Mary Rolle, Walford Rolle and Denise Russell are the uncontested candidates.

There is also an uncontested election in the West Grand Bahama & Bimini Polling Division 1. The candidates there are Devin Brown and Sandy Thompson.

In West Grand Bahama Central Grand Bahama Polling Division 1A (Lewis Yard), the uncontested candidates are Maryann Bonaby, Linda Russell and Cleveland Simmons.

In Central Grand Bahama Polling Division 1B (Pinders Point), the uncontested candidates there are Marjorie Darville and Lorna Knowles.

In Central Grand Bahama Polling Division 7B (Williams Town and Russell Town), the uncontested candidate is Ann Russell.

In Central Grand Bahama Polling Division 10A (Hepburn Town), the uncontested candidate is Ella Rolle.
