A MAN is awaiting sentencing after a jury unanimously convicted him of robbing a man at gunpoint of cash and a cellphone in a bar.

A nine-member jury returned to Justice Indra Charles’ courtroom yesterday afternoon and unanimously found Rony Siffort guilty of the March 14, 2011, robbery of Akeem Wilson.

Siffort returns before Justice Charles on July 24 to learn how many years he will serve for the offence, which carries up to life imprisonment.

According to evidence in the trial, Wilson was at the Twilight Bar in Montell Height where he was held up by two men who he did not know.

They robbed him of cash and his cellphone.

Nine months later, in December 2011, Wilson said he was at the same bar when he saw one of the men who had robbed him walk into the bar, order a drink and then go to the back of the bar.

Wilson said he contacted the police who later arrived at the bar and arrested the Siffort.

Siffort, in his defence, however, claimed he had no knowledge of any robbery and further denied being at the bar.

He said that the complainant was mistaken in his identification.

Siffort was defended by Terrel Butler. Anthony Delaney and Kendra Kelly prosecuted the case for the Crown.
