Pair held over gun find

TWO men, ages 21 and 27, are in custody after they were arrested on Tuesday accused of possessing an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

According to reports, shortly before 10pm, Mobile Division officers were on patrol on Madeira Street, where they searched a Nissan vehicle in which they found a handgun and a quantity of ammunition. The two men in the vehicle were taken into custody and are expected to appear in court on firearm-related charges later this week.

Police also reported that several people were taken into custody for various offences. Officers made several arrests — one for unlawful sexual intercourse; another for assault; for breach of the Bail Act; vagrancy; an outstanding criminal offence; attempted shop breaking; unlawfully carrying arms; breach of the Immigration Act; two arrests for possession of dangerous drugs; two for disorderly behaviour; three for a stolen vehicle; four for causing harm and ten for outstanding court warrants.
