ATTORNEY Geoffrey Farquharson will likely spend his next ten days in the dormitory of Her Majesty’s Prisons, The Tribune understands.

On Thursday, the controversial attorney began serving a 14-day contempt of court sentence after refusing to pay a $2,000 fine imposed by Justice Bernard Turner.

Mr Farquharson will not be among the general population in prison and he will have more privileges and freedom than those convicted of criminal offences.

However, he will have no access to a cellphone, laptop or other amenities until he finishes his sentence.

He was found in contempt of court on May 22 for his behaviour during last year’s Kofhe Goodman murder trial. Before he was arrested on Thursday, he maintained his innocence in Court, urging Justice Turner to delay the commencement of his sentence, saying that he was representing a client in an ongoing trial.

Last weekend, he told The Tribune he was “terrified” of going to jail, but added that he would to take a principled stance not to pay the $2,000 contempt of court fine ordered by Justice Turner.

The contempt proceedings for the lawyer had dragged on since last October.
