BASKETBALL

NPBA ACTION

ONLY one game was played in the New Providence Basketball Association at the AF Adderley Gymnasium on Saturday as the Commonwealth Bank Giants routed the Y-Care Wreckers 98-65.

In the other game scheduled, the Real Deal Shockers won by default over the College of the Bahamas Caribs.

Giants 98, Wreckers 65

Ricardo Pierre connected on 22 points, Michael Bain had 19, Jackson Jacob 16, Gamalial Rose 12 points with 12 rebounds and Mark Hanna added 11 points in the win for Commonwealth Bank.

Daniel Bullard scored 18 points with seven rebounds, Renaldo Baillou had 16 points and 12 rebounds and Kevin Armstrong added 14 points and 13 rebounds in the loss for Y-Care.

The NPBA is scheduled to resume play this week at the AF Adderley Gymnasium with games on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday night.

NPWBA ACTION

THE Career Builder’s Cheetahs and the Johnson’s Lady Truckers both came out victorious in the New Providence Women’s Basketball Association’s double header Saturday night at the DW Davis Gymnasium.

While the Cheetahs knocked off the Bommer G Lady Operators 69-62, the Lady Truckers held off the Super Value Cybot Queens 76-73.

Cheetahs 69, Operators 62

Philicia Kelly scored 17 points with 14 rebounds to lead the Career Builders to victory. Linda Pierre had 14 points and eight rebounds, Christine Sinclair had 13 points and eight rebounds and Annie Moultrie added eight points.

Sharel Cash scored 20 points with 11rebounds Chrishandra Rahming had 10 points and seven rebounds, Roberta Quant had 10 points and six rebounds, Melisha Peterson had eight points and seven rebounds and Suzette McKenzie contributed seven points in the loss for Bommer G.

Lady Truckers 76, Cybots Queens 73

Latoya Rolle had a game high 27 points with 19 rebounds to lead Johnson’s ladies to victory. Glenda Gilcud had 16 points and five rebounds, Valerie Nesbitt had 13 points and five rebounds and Shantell Rolle had 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

Taniel Poitier had 25 points, nine rebounds and eight assists to pace Super Value in the loss. Marvia Dean had 16 points and 20 rebounds, Tracey Lewis added 13 points, four rebounds and Tamniac Joseph had 13 points and seven rebounds.

The NPWBA is slated to be back in action on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday night at the DW Davis Gymnasium.

TENNIS

BLTA WORLD TENNIS DAY

THE Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association will celebrate World Tennis Day today with a Primary School Mini-tennis Jamboree at the National Tennis Centre. The event starts at 9am with round robin play. Schools will compete in two groups for the coveted World Tennis Day Championship trophy.
