POLICE are actively investigating the drowning of a 59-year-old tourist during a diving expedition off Stuart Cove on Saturday.

According to reports, shortly after 2pm, the victim, a Fort Lauderdale resident, was on a diving expedition with his wife and several other persons in waters off Stuart Cove in the South Ocean Beach area, when he reportedly drowned.

He was taken to hospital by ambulance, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Investigations continue.

This drowning comes less than a week after an 89-year-old tourist drowned while diving off San Salvador.

According to reports the elderly man, a resident of South Carolina, was snorkelling with a woman friend last Thursday near the Club Med Resort when the incident occurred at around 11:30am.

Police said the victim was pronounced dead by the island’s doctor a short time later.

They did not release his identity.
